Man, for an episode that was supposed to be a goodbye to Emily Prentiss (even proposing the “#GoodbyePrentiss” tag!), this episode was basically… well, it was barely a goodbye at all! Emily had some SERIOUS highlight moments — HELLO, she saved the day there with all that bomb business, that ain’t no small feat! — but much like she said at Rossi’s party at the end of the night, this was really all about J.J.
The question isss… WHY?
One might argue that Prentiss really already got her EPIC GOODBYE episode last season. She fake-died, traumatized the team, and then resurfaced and really messed with ‘em! That was a heck of an arc! But still — it wasn’t the.end. So did Paget Brewster get a bum wrap? Did nobody CARE any more?
Are you disappointed, or did you already FEEEEL your Prentiss goodbye before?
All that aside, this double-ep was pretty stellar. Know when Criminal Minds gets it SO RIGHT? When they aren’t overly concerned with being totally disgusting and twisted. This show in general is falling victim to the same problem that Law & Order SVU got to eventually — it felt the need to perpetually one-up itself, and wound up feeling overly shocking and just… blecky. BUT LAST NIGHT, with the action focused around a bank hold-up, complete with J.J.’s boyf Will’s involvement, was right on target. Don’t give me back story! Give me AWESOME, believable interaction between my fave characters. This show’s characters are some of the best on TV. They need to take advantage of that fact!
And how great is J.J.? And that kiddo! And I know people are hating on Hotch’s girlfriend, but all I have to say to that is C’MON GUYS HE DESERVES IT LEAVE HIM ALONEEE. You know?
Most appreciated thing about this finale — NO FREAKIN’ CLIFFHANGER. Athankyou.
Final thought: How would you have sent Prentiss out this time around? Honestlyyy, I was kinda hoping she’d get some sort of happy ending… but maybe that just isn’t Prentiss. What do you think?
